Schimmelbusch (Zoustar x Pirapala colt) set the 2022 season rolling with his AUD1,300,000 sale (yes, that is the horse’s name)
A striking half-brother to world champion sprinter and promising young sire, Harry Angel, has become the fourth most expensive yearling to be sold by China Horse Club in 2022 after changing hands for Guineas 600,000 (USD710,000) on the final day of Book One of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
The result follows a season of exceptional results that began with the trading of a Zoustar x Pirapala colt (AUD1,300,000 / USD840,000) in January at the Magic Millions January Yearling Sale, carried through the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in April _ Zoustar x Nurse Kitchen filly (AUD750,000 / USD485,000) _ and Saratoga Sale in August _ Uncle Mo x Cara Marie filly (USD625,000) before exploding at Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale. The hallowed Lexington sales ring lit up with USD1,800,000 (Constitution x Last Full Measure colt) and USD1,300,000 Constitution x Cozze Up Lady colt) results.
“The sale of the Medaglia D’Oro colt continues a wonderful season of results and credit is due to all involved at all levels at China Horse Club as well as the consignors we use the world over. These results are hard earned and gratefully appreciated,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President of China Horse Club.
“For a young operation there really is a great deal to be proud of. Three yearlings sold for in excess of a million dollars in their respective regions this year and a slew of yearlings for more than half a million dollars in their respective regions and strong results across Europe following the USA and Australia.
Medaglia D’Oro x Beatrix Potter colt
“Importantly, China Horse Club is positioned to continue bringing elite stock to market over the coming seasons and is continuing to invest in itself and in its future.”
The Medaglia D’Oro x Beatrix Potter colt was a jewel in his own right and held undoubted international appeal making it unsurprising to see high profile players fight over him. In the end, U.S. agent Ben McElroy parried off the efforts of agent Alister Donald who was acting on behalf of a Hong Kong client.
McElroy, delivering the final blow on behalf of Three Chimneys and Barbara Banke, has confirmed that the colt will join a programme with Wesley Ward which will see him broken in down in Florida and given his chance to find his feet early. It is a blue print which has delivered repeated success at Royal Ascot for Ward and Banke, among many of his owners.
The sale of the Medaglia D’Oro x Beatrix Potter colt ensured a 100 percent clearance rate for the select book one draft.
