In 2014 Magic Spell was lost in the long shadow of champion Chinese stayer Alcott, but then every stayer in China was. He began 2015 in much the same vein with CHC stable stars Endzone and North Dakota the headline grabbers. But by the end of last season this slow maturing European had shown that he was every bit a hero in his own right building a record of five starts for two wins, two seconds and one third. The feature being his win in the National Championships at Wuhan over 3000m against the best stayers around. The ‘Year of the Monkey’ may just be the year of Magic Spell.
