Vindication
A positive ride from Regan Bayliss was the catalyst for Vindication breaking his maiden status at Sydney’s Kensington Racecourse. The China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and partners owned colt led home a 1-2 for the syndicate with Warrior Hero game under the impost of 60.5kg.
Vindication made the AUD50,000 Heineken Handicap (1150m) his own at what was only his third career appearance and his first after a four-week break. The Hawkes Team trained son of Deep Field jumped well from barrier seven of eight and immediately crossed under Bayliss to control the event. Warrior Hero was allowed to slide forward under his top weight to sit outside of Vindication and the two CHC colour bearers rolled along and looked to have the race in their keeping a long way from home.
Early in the straight Vindication sprinted quickly and put the race to bed. Warrior Hero
It was a good win here by Vindication,” said Michael Smith, China Horse Club’s Australian representative.
“[Jockey Regan Bayliss] went forward and took luck out of the equation. He got things his own way going an easy tempo and Vindication was able to kick nicely off it early in the straight.
“We will see how he comes out of this race and look to build on this performance.”
Smith was also positive in his assessment of runner-up Warrior Hero.
“Warrior Hero ran well here. I think he found the 1150m a little bit short, as expected, but he’s finished off well,” Smith added.
“That performance gives Warrior Hero a solid platform to build off as we step up in trip.”
Vindication (10) led home a 1-2 for the syndicate with Warrior Hero (1) game under the impost of 60.5kg
The 1-2 finish follows a bonanza of a weekend for CHC and partners which included:
- a 1-3-5 finish in the G3 San Domenico Stakes, won by exciting colt In The Congo;
- Artorius finishing a brilliant second in the G3 McNeil Stakes;
- Americanrevolution winning the Albany Stakes;
- Life Is Good making a stunning return when second in the G1 H. Allen Jerkins Stakes;
Vindication is a son of Deep Field who sired three winners on the Kensington programme. The Newgate Farm based sire has made a spectacular start to the new racing season and is Australia’s leading sires by number of winners. In the first month of racing, Deep Field has been represented by no less than 35 wins.
Deep Field’s exceptional son, Cosmic Force, is standing his second season at stud this spring. The G3 winning juvenile, Golden Slipper favourite and G2 winning spring three-year-old has deservedly been popular since his retirement to stud. The rise and rise of Deep Field only adds to this appeal.
