For the third straight day of trading at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, China Horse Club’s U.S. breeding division has delivered a sale north of half a million dollars.

The Club’s Justify half-brother to champion juvenile and promising young sire Classic Empire was earmarked as a high-profile lot on the first day of trading of Book 2 of the world’s premier thoroughbred sale and it was no surprise that it was one of the industry’s leading players who claimed him once the gavel rang out.

WinStar Farm, acting under the title Maverick Racing, secured the handsome chestnut in partnership with Siena Farm with a final bid of USD575,000. The colt is the sixth highest price Justify of the sale to date and sixth yearling from the China Horse Club’s 2022 crop to break through the half million-dollar barrier.

“Heading into this year’s auction season we were very positive about the quality of stock being taken to auction this year,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s USA Representative.

“Considerable investment has afforded us this opportunity and this opportunity has been respected with extensive planning and hard work from our Club and from service providers who share their counsel and dedication in working towards our objectives.

“These results are very rewarding. We still have a number of yearlings to offer the market at Keeneland and hopefully they are also held in high regard.

“We wish all the purchasers who have supported our programme every success on the racetrack. We will be following the careers of these yearlings with immense interest over the coming years.”

The Justify x Sambuca Classic colt was prepared for the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale at WinStar Farm and consigned by Highgate Sales.
