Artorius wins G1 Canterbury Stakes
Royal Ascot remains unfinished business for Artorius and connections with confirmation that the star sprinter has closed his career in Australia to focus on a final tilt at the famed carnival.
Artorius franked his exceptional talent when pouncing on champion New Zealand mare Imperatriz to land the AUD600,000 G1 Canterbury Stakes in Sydney earlier this month. He backed that performance up with a fast finishing fourth when closing to less than a length behind champion Anamoe in the AUD1,000,000 G1 George Ryder Stakes.
Trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman released a statement on Artorius which read, in part:
“We are proud of his return to Australia following last year’s European campaign to win his second G1 in the Canterbury Stakes at Royal Randwick.
“He is now in the paddock enjoying a short break before we begin the preparation towards Royal Ascot.
“We would like to thank and congratulate all the people behind the scenes in the stable as well as his owners on Artorius’ career to date. We are sure he will do us all proud abroad again.”
Last year Artorius ran a scorching third in the £1,000,000 Platinum Jubilee on the final day of Britain’s most famous racing carnival before going on to run third in the G1 July Cup a few weeks later.
