A new month. Same result. Talented colt Bartley is set to add his presence to the China Horse Club’s spring assault in Australia after a comprehensive display at Warwick Farm today. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt bulks up a three-year-old division headed by G2 Silver Shadow Stakes winner Dame Giselle and which is supported by early season winner Prime Star as well as Aim, Rulership, Oregon and imported stayer Paths of Glory.
“That was impressive today. To come from the tail of the field, circle his rivals and win going away,” Michael Wallace, COO of China Horse Club, said of Bartley.
“It’s the kind of performance we were hoping to see especially on what he showed us as an autumn two-year-old. It gives us the opportunity to keep moving forward with a view to better races in the spring.”
Bartley holds an entry in the AUD1,000,000 G1 Golden Rose Stakes later this month, a contest that attracts the very best spring three-year-old sprint-milers nationwide. 2020 will be no different and connections will use the coming days to finalize just what is the most suitable target for the regally bred colt over the coming weeks and months.
Bartley franked race favouritism in the AUD50,000 All Too Hard @ Vinery Handicap (1300m) with a commanding display. The handsome colt was purring at the tail of the field under star rider James McDonald who only needed to give him an inch of rein before Bartley starting a sweeping move around the tightly packed field. Rounding the home corner Bartley was nine and ten deep before a burst from his afterburners carried him from midfield, passed his rivals and presented McDonald with the luxury of standing in his irons as he the pair coasted over the line.
It was a timely reminder of the clear talented of the three-year-old who was touched out in a photo in the G3 Black Opal Stakes as a juvenile by his stablemate Barbaric.
Bartley is owned by a syndicate of leading international breeders that includes Newgate Farm, WinStar Farm, Sir Owen Glenn, Matthew Sandblom, Glenlogan Park and G1G Racing and Breeding. The colt was an AUD660,000 yearling purchase from the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
