It might have been a non-descript maiden at Victoria’s Kyneton Racecourse but Rights of Man launched his career on the same winning note as his two star siblings Shooting To Win and Deep Field.
Shoot To Win rose quickly through the ranks to contest the G3 Up and Coming Stakes at his third career start, the G1 Golden Rose at his fifth start and won the G1 Caulfield Guineas at his seventh appearance.
Deep Field’s rise was even more spectacular. A 10 length winner on debut at Gosford Racecourse, he quickly strung together a sequence of big margin wins before racing away with the Listed Carrington Stakes at his 4th start before annexing the G2 Linlithgow Stakes at his fifth fronting.
Both colts quickly became high profile commercial stallion prospects in their own right and were sold for stallion duties to Darley Australia (Shooting To Win) and Newgate Farm (Deep Field) for a reported collective value of AUD25 million. It is preposterous to mention Rights of Man in the same breaths at this early stage but he did all he was required to do at his maiden appearance, he won.
If the debutant winner can continue rising through the ranks there is no doubting the commercial appeal he holds. Bred and owned in partnership by China Horse Club and Cressfield Stud, he is a son of multiple champion sire Snitzel and the half-brother to the above mentioned explosive sprinter and now boom sire Deep Field (sire of China Horse Club’s own Cosmic Force) and to G1 hero and sire Shooting To Win.
Star Jockey Damien Lane left little to chance on the regally bred colt, pushing him along to ensure he was always within striking distance in the bet365 Odds Drift Protect Maiden Plate (1112m). The chestnut was three wide most of the trip and abundantly green but he quite simply had too much quality for his rivals.
“[Rights of Man] is very green. He’s probably has not been opened right up like that before. Hopefully he can take some benefit by the experience,” said jockey Damien Lane.
“[Rights of Man] was off the bit the whole way. I was happy to ride him like the best horse. He just never travelled for me. I was just pushing him, pushing him, trying to pick up the bridle. He ran out off the corner so there is a lot of improvement in him.”
Champion broodmare, Listen Here, the dam of Rights of Man, has an I Am Invincible filly on the ground and is currently in foal to the champion sire once again.
