White Hunter TC1_3006-aa

White will be a lucky colour in The Year of the Monkey and good fortune has come a little early for members of the China Horse Club after the aptly named White Hunter posted a comfortable win in Singapore overnight.

“It was a really nice performance. It is always difficult to make all the running on the long course at Kranji but he has done a very good job,” said assistance trainer James Peters.

“He travelled the best [of the field] and quickened up well when asked. Corey [Brown], who rode him, said he just idled a little and waited for the second horse but Corey had more in hand and he could have won by more.

“White Hunter will improve with fitness and there is plenty more to come from his horse.”

White Hunter was switched to Singapore on the recommendation of the China Horse Club having begun his career in Australia where he won in Melbourne before being tried in stakes company. The change of environment looks to have been a judicious decision with last night’s win hinting at further success.

“When [White Hunter] hit the front, he was looking at the board and the winning post and not concentrating. He should have won by three or four lengths,” jockey Brown told the awaiting Singapore media.

“He will be a better horse if he can follow for a longer time and chase. He’s a lovely horse, but he still has a bit of learning to do.”

White Hunter is only the second China Horse Club runner to have competed in 2016 with the first of the club’s proven star performers set to emerge in the next four to six weeks. Superstars Pride of Dubai and Press Statement have already trialled in encouraging fashion, Australian champion Vancouver will depart for Ireland at the end of the month ahead of a possible tilt at Royal Ascot in Britain and waiting in the wings are First Seal, Auvray, Orbec, Johannes Vermeer, Jiayuguan, Crissoles and Wimbledon as well as the Chinese based stars headed by Endzone, North Dakota and Commengy.

“Members of the club and racing fans in general should be terribly excited about the year ahead and they shouldn’t be alone,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).

“Those who appreciate elite athletes and who warm to the growing success of the Chinese in this sport will want to see each and every one of these performers lining up in the best of races in 2016. This is a crack team of local and international racehorses we have and there are some very exciting unraced performers and lightly raced performers as well. It could be a very big year.”
