A growing appreciation of the lifestyle of an international racehorse owner, and the potential rewards, is behind the China Horse Club’s increasing appetite for elite thoroughbreds. At the second day of trading at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Australia, a further 11 yearlings were secured either outright or in partnership bringing the current number of purchases to 15.

In all, the haul included two colts and a filly by star sire Snitzel, a colt and a filly by the late Commands and one colt each by Street Cry, All Too Hard, Testa Rossa, Sebring, Foxwedge and Pierro.

“Our members are becoming more and more interested in competing and becoming involved on the international racing circuit and that is encouraging us to target high quality individuals at the world’s leading yearling sales,” said the China Horse Club’s Chairman Teo Ah Khing.

“Just like owners in established racing centres, they want to compete at the highest of levels, especially with elite colts. We have had some success in a short time with performers like Australia and Johannes Vermeer in Europe and with Dissident, Press Statement and Pride of Dubai in Australia. All are also either at stud currently or will be going to stud and the ability to enjoy horses like this on the racetrack and then to carry the experience on when they are at stud is very appealing. Hopefully among the colts we have bought last year and the colts we are currently buying, there are performers who can provide more of our members this kind of experience.”

The club’s burgeoning breeding operation also enjoyed some success with the sale of an All Too Hard x Kakakakatie colt for $A370,000 and a Fastnet Rock x Graceful Anna colt in partnership with Coolmore for $A250,000.
