China Horse Club Australia has closed out its most success Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale as a breeder. For the second successive year it sold 100 percent of its ‘CHC branded yearlings’ and registered its best results by gross, average and highest individual yearling sales price.
“It has been a tremendous sale for our breeding arm, credit to all involved in our team from our bloodstock team, to Kerry at The Chase and the team at Sledmere headed by Royston and Catriona Murphy who play a key role in our programme,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australian Representative.
“We have worked very hard to educate the marketplace that China Horse Club is a seller across all the markets it is involved in and so to have brought nine yearlings to auction and had all find new homes is very rewarding. We owe a debt of gratitude to all the buyers who have supported us over the last few days as well as the underbidders who participated.”
The Club’s personal achievements at the 2022 Magic Millions include:
- Record Gross: AUD4,110,000
- Record Average: AUD456,667
- Record Yearling Price: AUD1,300,000
- 5th million dollar yearling & 14th auction result of AUD1 million or more
- Highest priced Zoustar yearling of all time AUD1,300,000
- 6th highest priced Lonhro yearling of all time AUD650,000
The reputation of China Horse Club as a quality breeder in Australia continues to build and has been aided over the last 12 months by a succession of notable results headed by Meritable’s second in the 2021 G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas, Dame Giselle’s third in the 2021 Coolmore Classic and Equation’s win in the 2021 Listed Canberra Guineas.
“Meritable is a colt we brought to the 2020 Magic Millions. He didn’t realize his reserve but he franked the opinion we held of him when he debuted and quickly moved through the grades up to G1 racing in the second half of 2021,” Smith added.
“We have been very positive about the quality of the draft were selling under Sledmere Stud. Presale we felt it was probably the best we were bringing to the Gold Coast and we hope they can go on and deliver on that assessment for their new owners.”
China Horse Club Australia’s focus now shifts to the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where it will be bringing some additional Russian Revolution yearlings to market. The market demand for the Club’s former star sprinter continues to rise with his first crop progeny starting with a rush.
