Communist as a yearling
A brace of winners over the weekend has reaffirmed Russian Revolution’s stranglehold on the Australian First Season Sire title, carrying his total number of winners for the season to 13 with almost seven weeks of the season still to run.
The first of those two victories belonged to the China Horse Club bred Communist who was a determined winner at only his second career start in the AUD35,000 Black Marine 2YO Maiden Plate (1400m) at Hawkesbury.
The two-year-old is out of the stakes placed mare Cappadocia and is the result of the first of three successive mating to Russian Revolution. Importantly, Communist is the result of the same breeding programme that has also generated the exceptional Revolutionary Miss (1st G2 Blue Diamond Prelude, 2nd G1 Blue Diamond Stakes) who is among the premier juveniles in Australia this year.
“The results of Russian Revolution in his maiden season are exceedingly exciting when you consider that he wasn’t a pure two-year-old himself but a fast horse who significantly improved at three and then further again at four,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian Representative.
“With that in mind there is justifiable excitement around Russian Revolution and his progeny going forward. China Horse Club has supported him resolutely every season and will do so again in 2022.”

- number of individual winners
- number of individual stakes winners
Russian Revolution has also established himself among the top stallions nationwide among the open Two-Year-Old Sires Ranks sitting fourth behind Rebel Dane (sire of champion two-year-old Fireburn), his own sire Snitzel and Written Tycoon and ahead of luminaries including I Am Invincible, Zoustar, Extreme Choice, Pierro, Exceed and Excel and Street Boss.
