A CHC-bred filly from the first crop of Classic winner Tiz the Law summoned a sale-topping $1.9-million from Michael Lund Petersen at the recently concluded OBS Spring Sale. Bloodstock agent Donato Lanni handled the bidding alongside the filly’s new trainer, Hall of Famer Bob Baffert.
The bay filly breezed a quarter-mile in a co-record time of :20 1/5 during the breeze show held prior to the auction. The record was set just a month ago by a Win Win Win filly, who topped the OBS March sale at $1.8-million.
“She’s a special, special filly,” Tom McCrocklin, who bought her as a yearling and prepped her for this sale, told the Thoroughbred Daily News. “She showed it in her breeze. We bought her off of her physical conformation. She is out of a half to Abel Tasman, so she has a lot of quality in her pedigree. When we bought her, I didn’t know, like all of us. And when she got here, it was effortless. She’s very sound with clean vet work. She was amazing in her breeze with a strong gallop out and she attracted the attention of the buyers.”
The bay filly is a daughter of the Sky Mesa mare Moonlight Sky, who is a half-sister to CHC’s champion Abel Tasman. Moonlight Sky is already the dam of Grade III winner Urban (Quality Road).
“Moonlight Sky is becoming a very exciting mare for us,” CHC’s Regional Manager of the Americas Christie DeBernardis said. “The Tiz the Law filly is only the second juvenile to ever breeze that fast at OBS and we hope she continues to be that fast on the racetrack. Moonlight Sky has a yearling colt by Curlin we are excited to bring to market this year and is currently expecting a foal from the first crop of Life Is Good.”
