20221020-FrontGolden Age is the latest rising star with the ‘CHC’ brand

The commercial appeal of a Zoustar x First Seal colt may well be bolstered ahead of the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale going by the manner of Golden Age’s slick winning display at Sydney’s Warwick Farm today.

The hulking son of former champion filly, First Seal, looks destined for higher honours after comfortably accounting for rivals in the AUD55,000 Drinkwise Plate (1400m) at Warwick Farm (Australia). Having landed a metropolitan win at only his second career start, it remains to be seen if Hawkes Racing will direct the China Horse Club bred three-year-old towards Melbourne’s Spring Carnival or carry him through his grades with an eye to Sydney in the 2023 autumn. What is undoubted is that there is considerable ability under the bonnet.

Golden Age is the second foal and second winner of First Seal. More significantly, he is the fourth performer carrying the ‘CHC’ brand to perform with aplomb this month alone, joining a growing talent pool headed by:

-        Revolutionary Miss:        2nd AUD1,000,000 G1 1000 Guineas

-        Perfect Proposal:             2nd AUD200,000 G3 Gimcrack Stakes

-        Communist:                      2nd AUD250,000 Listed Dulcify Handicap

“[Golden Age] is still learning; he still does not know what it’s all about,” said co-trainer Michael Hawkes of Hawkes Racing.

“The further he goes, the better he will be. His first run was good. He just lost a little momentum halfway up the straight. He excelled at 1400m today.”

The Zoustar x First Seal colt is an immensely commercial prospect considering the growing success of Zoustar and the record First Seal is starting to build as a broodmare. The former G1 Flight Stakes winner has also foaled down a Snitzel filly this spring.

On the same programme, Daytona, racing for the China Horse Club/Newgate Farm syndicate, posted his third successive win in the AUD55,000 Vinery Stallions Handicap (1400m). The three-year-old led from start to finish in a professional fashion and is capable of continuing on his winning way.
