In a magical five minutes China Horse Club realized its highest ever yearling sales price and netted €3,000,000 as the globe-trotting Coolmore and White Birch Farm refused to concede when two of the Club’s graduates traded back-to-back on the final day of France’s 2023 Arqana August Sale.
The €2,200,000 result for a Siyouni x Hourglass colt was the highest price ever paid for a Siyouni yearling and the highest price for the day. It was the second highest price for the sale and one of the highest sales figures ever achieved at Arqana’s famed auction ring.

The headline result franked the market’s assessment of China Horse Club’s standing as a proven G1 producer. It was also the third occasion in 2023 and the 10th in five years that a yearling graduate from China Horse Club’s breeding programmes has realized seven figures.

“They’re two very nice horses and, interestingly enough, we actually sold the two dams a couple of years ago,” Coolmore’s MV Magnier said of the Siyouni x Hourglass colt and Wootton Bassett x Holy Roman Empress colt.
“We’ve come back and bought the progeny because China Horse Club are very good breeders and Monceaux are an incredible farm. They do a very good job raising horses and we’re lucky to get the two of them. They’ll both go to Ballydoyle.”

The partnership of Coolmore and White Birch Farm are well versed to the capabilities of the best progeny of Siyouni with his talismanic son Paddington racing in their ownership. The former also enjoyed the five-time G1 winner St. Mark’s Basilica.
The five strong China Horse Club draft was raised and prepared at the exceptional Ecurie de Monceaux under the direction of Henri Bozo. Three of the five realized €500,000 or more and collectively returned almost €4,000,000 in sales receipts.

“The support for graduates from our European breeding programme has been exceptional. A debt of gratitude is owed to all the buyers and all the bidders for their support in recent days and to the team at Ecurie de Monceaux for their efforts over almost two years with this draft,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.
“Our drafts across all sales in 2023 are very exciting. We look forward to showcasing our graduates at Goffs Orby Sale and Tattersalls over the coming weeks and months and naturally following the progress of each and everyone of them in years to come.”
The Club was also on the buyers list, securing a richly bred Sea The Stars x Miss Mariduff filly who will go into training with Nicolas Clement. Clement trains Rose Bloom, an exciting winner of last Friday’s €200,000 Arqana Series des Pouliches (1400m) and previously trained multiple stakes winner Ming Zhi Cosmos and the stakes placed Jiayuguan.
