In a week where the China Horse Club’s New Zealand racing arm was honoured by being shortlisted among a quality list of nominees for the Owner of the Year Award at the 2019 New Zealand Horse of the Year Awards, its European racing division was topping the Goffs UK Goodwood Sale.

The nomination for ‘Owner of the Year’ follows a previously announced nomination for Three-Year-Old of the Year at the NZ Awards. It is a heady achievement for a select stable of runners that has a focus on quality fillies.

“It is a credit to our New Zealand stable and all the trainers and jockeys that support it to receive these nominations, everyone involved with our stable there should be very proud,” said Michael Wallace, China Horse Club’s Head of Racing and Bloodstock.

“Madison County and Queen of Diamonds have spearheaded what has been a fantastic season and we hope we build upon that over the next 12 months. There is a great deal to look forward to.”

The new owners of Red Armada will be hoping for equally rewarding results for their new charge after being pushed to a sales topping bid to secure the China Horse Club colour bearer. The result ensured that the club topped a second auction in 2019 after Abel Tasman’s $5 million sale at the 2019 Keeneland January Sale. China Horse Club offering have topped no less than nine sales worldwide now and at least one public auction each year for the last four years.

“Red Armada is a quality young horse and has demonstrated the potential he has with wins in his two most recent starts,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Racing Manager.

“The market clearly realised his upside and is well aware that China Horse Club sells quality stock on the market. It is a great result to top another sale.”
