Scarlet Moretta made a smashing debut today when she won her first race by almost two length in the Inglis VOBIS Gold Sales Maiden Plate (1200m), at Sale in Victoria.

The daughter of champion sire Fastnet Rock, among the first crop of racehorses purchased by China Horse Club (CHC) in Australia, delivered an emphatic performance after jumping from a wide gate to settle near last and race away in encouraging fashion.

Trainer Anthony Freedman was delighted with Scarlet Moretta’s debut having previously outlined the filly would likely find the 1200m too short for her. The Easter Yearling Sale graduate is out of the mare Venetian Lady, a half-sister to two stakes winners including Prix de l’Opera heroine Verveine who in turn has produced two individual group one winners.

Freedman is likely to spell Scarlet Moretta in preparation for a spring campaign that may take in some spring targets.

Congratulations to all of the associated members of the China Horse Club.
