Two days after seeing Communist graduate as a G1 winner, China Horse Club were rewarded when his full brother set a new mark for the progeny of Russian Revolution at this year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

At the end of Day 2 of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, the Australian division of the Club could attest to breeding the:

-        Highest priced Russian Revolution yearling

-        Highest priced Super Seth yearling

“The market is becoming more and more aware of the elite results from stock carrying the ‘CHC’ brand. Communist is the latest to emerge but there are others out there right now who are hot on his heels,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australian Representative.

“Our Melbourne draft was well prepared at Vinery Stud and we are excited by the homes they are going to. We look forward to following the progress of all of our stock over the coming seasons.”

The full-brother to G1 Randwick Guineas winner Communist (Lot 314: Russian Revolution x Cappadocia colt) was a wanted commodity before Melbourne trainer Mick Price knocked out his rivals with an AUD300,000 winning bid.

The sum was the fourth highest price paid for a Russian Revolution yearling in Australia in 2023 and was no doubt buoyed by rise and rise of Communist. The Michael Freedman trained three-year-old closed last spring as a G2 placegetter and has moved forward quickly in 2023 to mark himself as arguably the premier miler of his generation.

The AUD300,000 price tag came a day after China Horse Club’s homebred Super Seth x Queen of Diamonds filly (Lot 57) was sold for AUD200,000. The sum is a high watermark for the New Zealand based fire season sire at the Inglis Premier Sale and was also the fifth highest price realized by the stallion’s progeny in Australia to date this season.

The strong sales results were interspersed with China Horse Club, Newgate Farm, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy Bloodstock partnering to secure a striking Exceed and Excel x Scarlet Billows colt for AUD600,000.

The exceptional Exceed and Excel remains a force in Australian racing despite his 23 years with his son Cylinder a deserved favourite for the 2023 AUD5,000,000 Golden Slipper after his narrow but exciting win in last weekend’s G2 Todman Stakes.
