Ala Victory, winner of the 1400m race at the Singapore Turf Club
A La Victory earned his ticket into the S$500,000 (RMB2.3 million) G1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) in two weeks time after posting his fourth career win in effortless fashion in Singapore on Saturday. In doing so he will ensure the China Horse Club has a two pronged attack in Singapore’s premier three-year-old feature with CECF Singapore Classic runner-up Zululand already targeting the event.
It will make for a wonderful weekend for members of the club with the duo set to compete for the S$500,000 (RMB2.3 million) feature on Friday 15th May, just two days before CECF Singapore Cup winner Parranda tackles international raiders in the S$3 million (RMB14 million) Singapore Airlines International Cup.
“Members of the China Horse Club will have three runners competing in two of Singapore’s best and most lucrative feature races in one weekend. That is something to be proud of,” said Eden Harrington, General Manager of the China Horse Club.
“Our members will really enjoy the occasion and, on top of that, they will have live changes in some great races. That is exciting and what we aspire for our members.”
A La Victory has been a work in progress in the 12 months he has been in Singapore. Undoubtedly gifted his record could even better than his four wins in eight career starts. But The Michael Freedman trained runner is starting to learn his craft and that has seen him post back-to-back wins in good style.
“He has untapped ability. [A La Victory] reminds me a little of a horse I had a few years ago called Super Ninety Seven. He had a lot of ability too but took almost two years to really understand what racing was all about,” the trainer said.
“A La Victory has a lot of ability and he while he is getting better all the time it may take a while for us to really see just how good he is. The ability is certainly there.”
Jockey Corey Brown was posting his third win on A La Victory in four rides and is taken by the bay gelding. The Australian rider continues to work on improving A La Victory’s tractability and ‘race sense’ on every occasion he is legged aboard him.
“He got there easily but once he got to the front he stargazed,” Brown said of his mount.
“[A La Victory] is getting better with every run and is improving all the time but right now he is a better chaser. He went passed (runner-up) Twickenham and thought his job was done. He will be better when he can chase a horse in a race for longer.”
