Strong demand for CHC USA’s yearlings continued on the opening day of trading at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale with a colt and filly collectively trading for an even million dollars.
Alex and JoAnn Lieblong, who raced Embellish The Lace to success at the highest level, were purposeful when securing her striking Quality Road filly in the opening hour of trade for USD500,000. That mark was equalled a few hours later when a Curlin colt out of a stakes placed half-sister to China Horse Club’s former champion Abel Tasman was secured by leading agent Mike Ryan.

“It has been a strong opening day of trading and CHC’s yearlings certainly showed they belong on the world stage,” said Christie DeBernardis, China Horse Club’s Americas Representative.
“The Embellish The Lace filly and Moonlight Sky colt were exceedingly popular and we are delighted they have been secured by leading operators in Alex and Jo Lieblong and Mike Ryan respectively.
“It’s especially rewarding to see the Lieblongs buy the Embellish The Lace filly having enjoyed so much success with her dam.”
Quality Road x Embellish The Lace filly
Embellish The Lace stamped herself as exception in an abridged career with the highlight of her six starts being an all the way triumph at Saratoga in the G1 Alabama Stakes. In her following start, the gorgeous filly injured her leg when fifth in the 2015 G1 Cotillion Stakes and was subsequently retired. She joined the CHC USA’s broodmare band the following year.
The strong demand for both yearlings carried on a momentum for CHC USA’s stock that commenced when an Essential Quality x Sumer Solo colt reached USD510,000 at the 2024 Saratoga Yearling Sale in August. The steel grey yearling was the highest priced offerings of his high profile first season sire.
