One of Europe’s most prized foals for the season was born last night with a half-brother to world champion sprinter Harry Angel taking his first wobbly steps at Ireland’s Baroda Stud.

The colt, bred by China Horse Club, is a son of multiple champion sire Medaglia D’Oro, a half-brother to the above-mentioned world champion sprinter Harry Angel, to G2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Pierre Lapin and to the unraced Fanciful Tale who Godolphin secured for €1,000,000 at the 2019 Goffs Orby Sale. It goes without saying that his commercial appeal is instant.

“The arrival of Beatrix Potter’s foal is of immense significance every year and is always exciting to see,” said China Horse Club’s Matt Houldsworth.

“Beatrix Potter foaled down a colt by champion sire Medaglia D’Oro last night. He is tall, leggy and has a lovely frame to grow into. The foal is well and so is Beatrix Potter which is fantastic news.

“It will be wonderful to follow this colt’s progress over the next few seasons, he rightly comes with a weight of expectation.”

A similar expectation will be held for the colt’s year older half-sister, a strapping chestnut filly from the maiden crop of U.S. Triple Crown winner Justify. The Justify x Beatrix Potter filly is the product of a mating that is both commercial and sentimental for the China Horse Club and her status ensures she would not be out of place at any auction across the U.S. or Europe.

Medaglia D’Oro has sired no less than 26 individual G1 winners worldwide. He is the sire of champion colts and fillies, sprinters, milers and classic performers. His elite performers have excelled on dirt and turf. He is a complete sire and a worthy match for Beatrix Potter.
