China Horse Club was honoured to be among Europe’s elite breeders at the Royal Ascot Winning Breeders Lunch on Friday. Ascot Racecourse’s annual celebration of winning breeders from the Royal meeting was a who’s who of high achievers with a peer group inclusive of Juddmonte International, Coolmore and Godolphin.
It was the first occasion for China Horse Club’s European breeding arm to be recognized with the invitation coming courtesy of Perotto’s gritty win in the Britannia Stakes. The son of boom young stallion New Bay is only three but is among the oldest home breds for the boutique European breeding arm of CHC.
“Recognizing the breeders of Royal Ascot winners is a wonderful initiative by the Ascot Racecourse,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President of China Horse Club.
“The occasion has continued to grow in prominence under the direction of CEO Guy Henderson and his team and they deserve every accolade for continuing to lead in this way.
“China Horse Club celebrated its first winner at the royal meeting this year and it is an achievement we hold among our dearest and most significant. We hope to be able to earn the right to attend Ascot Racecourse’s luncheon once again in 2022.”
New Bay
Within 24 hours of the Royal Ascot Winning Breeders Lunch, China Horse Club Europe celebrated another home bred success with a son of New Bay when Yellow Imperial powered to his third career win from only six starts. The Roger Varian trainee continued his exceptional form in 2021 when registering his second win in only three starts for the year at Newmarket.
Jian Le (no 3)
Across in China, Jian Le, was building on his reputation and that of the club’s breeding operation in Mainland China. The two-year-old recorded his second career win from as many starts and, in doing so, continues to shine a light on the highly promising young stallion Vinson Massif. The former crack sprinter stands at stud in Ordos, China for Yitai Desert Star (YTDS), a partnership involving China Horse Club. YTDS has brought quality bloodlines to China with Jian Le an example. The colt is out of regally bred Galileo mare Flower Bouquet who had been bred and raced by Coolmore before relocating to China in 2013.
Vinson Massif
Standing alongside Vinson Massif at YTDS is North Dakota, who was Galileo champion middle distance horse in China and arguably best his bred son at stud there. In a measure of its vision, YTDS is also promoting a quartet of two-year-olds by star US stallion Daredevil. The former G1 winner set US racing align in 2020 with two classic winners from his first crop of runners. Swiss Skydiver (G1 Preakness Stakes, G1 Alabama Stakes) and Shedaresthedevil (G1 Kentucky Oaks) catapulted Daredevil into elite stallion company last year and a weight of winners in 2021 has demonstrated his consistent excellence. At the time of writing, Daredevil is the leading Third Crop Site by Winners in the U.S.
YTDS’s four Daredevils have a distinct physicality that augurs well not only for their future racing careers but also the growing reputations of YTDS’s breeding operation.
“Daredevil is a high-quality stallion and these are the only Daredevils available in China,” said Ann Wang, China Horse Club’s China Representative.
“YTDS believes in the importance of upgrading China’s breeding stock and these two-year-olds, along with our Vinson Massifs and our North Dakotas are representative of that goal. They bring international bloodlines to China and in the case of Vinson Massif and North Dakota they also bring proven race records in China itself. There has never been a better time for people looking to race winners to come and inspect the quality bloodstock available at YTDS.”
