New Bay’s Perotto became the first Royal Ascot winner for CHC’s European breeding division
At the close of one of the world’s most famous race meetings, China Horse Club’s European breeding division emerged with its reputation enhanced. The boutique breeding operation and the stallions it holds equity in stood tall against the powerhouses of European flat racing.
At the close of Royal Ascot, the crown jewel of summer racing in Europe, the notable highlights included:
o Home bred Perotto (New Bay x Tschierschen) 1st Britannia Stakes & Patrick Sarsfield 2nd Listed Wolferton Stakes;
o 3 winners for Dark Angel: Berkshire Shadow (1st G2 Coventry Stakes), Indie Angel (G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes), Real World (Royal Hunt Cup);
o Australia: Point Lonsdale (1st Listed Chesham Stakes) & his older brother Broome 2nd G2 Hardwicke Stakes
o Le Havre: Wonderful Tonight (1st G2 Hardwicke Stakes)
“There are some exceptional positives to take out of this year’s Royal Ascot meeting,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.
“The stallions we partner in really measured up and to have our first homebred winner with Perotto, a son of New Bay who we own in and believe in was highly exciting and an achievement to savour.”
Perotto is from the first crop of New Bay who continues to build a purposeful reputation. The Marcus Tregoning trainee is ultra-consistent with nine placings in 11 starts with the Britannia Stakes his fourth win.
The weekend was rounded out with the American revolution posting a determined win at Belmont Park (New York) at only his second career start. The juvenile showed encouraging fight turning into the straight to reel in and overcome capable opposition.
