China Horse Club’s silks were carried to success by a brace of exciting performers in two different hemispheres in less than 24 hours.

Striking juvenile Critique posted the 11th juvenile win this season for the China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Triliogy Racing syndicate when leading throughout to score by three lengths at only his second career start. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained runner is now set to target the AUD1,000,000 Showdown.

In Britain, hours later, the lightly raced Kingdom Come posted his third successive win in 2023 to justify a tilt at higher honours and keep Royal Ascot as a mid-season target. The Clive Cox trained performer has been deftly handled this preparation, progressing through each test presented to him.

Critique is the eight individual winning juvenile to surface this season for the colts’ syndicate which has also won or placed 11 times in feature events. The China Horse Club owned filly, August Bloom, has also stamped herself as a performer to watch with a sceering third in the G3 Magic Night Stakes.

Jockey Jordan Childs provided a positive post race endorsement of Critique who was bred by part-owner Sir Owen Glenn.

“We thought he would come here and do that today and it was good to see him get the job done,” Childs said on Racing.com.

“[Critique] is a very nice horse in the making. He gives me the feeling that he’s going to be even nicer again next time in, just when he strengthens up and matures a bit more, but he’s definitely heading in the right direction.”

Positivity was also the mark of post-race assessment as Kingdom Come continued his undefeated run this season. The handsome son of Kingman has been transformed since being gelded and may well have more in store.

“This was a stylish win and great to get the three timer,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.

“Kingdom Come has won with a bit in hand and showed that great turn of foot like before. [Jockey] Kieran Shoemaker thinks he’ll stay a mile and he seems to enjoy going right-handed.

“At this stage the plan is to go to Ascot in early May for the Victoria Cup over 7f. If this goes well, we’ll likely go straight to Royal Ascot in June for either the Royal Hunt Cup, or the Buckingham Palace.”
