The credentials of an Easter Yearling Sale bound full-brother to G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner and exciting young sire Ozzmosis hardly need enhancing. But the dynamism of the cross was further red flagged with a second full-brother, Olufsen, scoring a facile win on debut in Australia today.

Lot 86, a Zoustar x No More Tears colt, is one of five yearlings bred by China Horse Club and prepared by The Chase that will be offered through the Inglis auction ring next month. He stands as the lone colt in a quality draft alongside a Snitzel filly of four-time G2 winner Dame Giselle; a Zoustar half-sister to stakes winner Depth of Character; a Zoustar filly out of a half-sister to Away Game (Champion Aus. 2YO filly 2018/19) and a So You Think filly out of Queen of Diamonds (Joint NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year 2018/19)

“He is the strongest type No More Tears has produced to date,” China Horse Club’s Mike Smith said of the yearling colt.

“He has more substance than either Ozzmosis or Olufsen at the same stage even though he is a November foal. He is continuing to develop and is thriving during his sales preparation.”

Trainer Bjorn Baker and Darby Racing moved on Olufsen before Ozzmosis launched on a career that would carry them all the way to the pantheon of Australian sprinting with success in the time honoured G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in the spring of 2023.

That triumph marks Ozzmosis as one of seven individual G1 winners bred/co-bred by China Horse Club worldwide:

Time will tell if Olufsen can rise through the ranks to join the above list of high achievers. He geared down to win as he liked at Wyong, mirroring Ozzmosis in wining first time out, and has a quality team supporting him.

“It was good see him do that as he’s had patient owners as he’s taken a little bit longer,” Luke Hilton, Baker Stable representative, told the media after the win.

“He’s a full brother to Ozzmosis, so he’s an excitingly bred horse who they dived into after Ozzmosis’ success.

“It took a little bit longer to get him going than we’d hoped, but he’s put a good performance together today and I think he’s got a lot of upside to come.

“[Olufsen] just hit a flat spot on the corner and then he picked it up and was always going to be hard to beat when he got to the outside. He’s been really strong late in his trials, and Jason (Collett) was confident whatever he did today he’d improve on, but he got the job done, so he’s exciting.”
