Away from the bright lights and fanfare of Royal Ascot the China Horse Club’s newly acquired mare Diademe will don the club’s red and yellow silks this weekend and make her debut for her new owners in the G1 $400,000 Tattersalls’ Tiara at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
Diademe
The appearance of the six year old mare, who will race in partnership with Coolmore, ensures the China Horse Club will be compete in two G1 events on the same day in different parts of the world. Just hours after Diademe is tested against some of Australasia’s premier fillies and mares, Wandjina will take his place against Europe’s elite sprinters in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day of the six day long Royal Ascot meeting.
“Our goal is to have our members race at the elite level more often so it is rewarding to see this is the case this weekend with Diademe and Wandjina,”said Eden Harrington, General Manager of the China Horse Club.
Wandjina
“A lot has been said about Wandjina in recent weeks and rightly so. He is a crack colt who has flown from Australia to Britain to tackle world class performers in his final race appearance before going to stud. But we shouldn’t forget Diademe. She is already a G1 winner having saluted at that level in New Zealand. She was purchased to join our broodmare band in time but she is ticking over well for trainer Bjorn Baker and we remain positive that she will run well for Coolmore and our members.”
Baker remains upbeat about his charge ahead of the Tattersalls Tiara. The Warwick Farm based mentor took over the training of Diademe from his New Zealand based father before her last start but is well versed in the abilities of the bay.
“[Diademe] is in very good order and is going up to the Gold Coast at the end of the week,” he said.
“I’m happy with how she is preparing going into this race, she is in good order and she was very unlucky at Scone last start.”
