At the stroke of midnight tonight eight of the China Horse Club’s stallions carrying a combined value of more than $A150 million (RMB750 million) will launch into a new breeding season in Australia. The elite octet of Sebring, Dissident, Wandjina, Deep Field, Pride of Dubai, Vancouver, Press Statement and Super One is among the most prized sires in a multibillion-dollar industry and will carry with them the hopes of some of the world’s premier breeders, studs, shareholders and the industry at large.

For Widden Stud’s outstanding Sebring it is another opportunity to extend his growing influence. For his son, Australian Horse of the Year Dissident, and for Dissident’s fellow Newgate Farm based sires Wandjina and Deep Field, it is a second season to build up on a legacy. While for Pride of Dubai, Vancouver, Press Statement and Super One is a chance to start a new career at stud. The quartet carry weighty expectations having been among the premier two and three-year-olds of their generations in Australia and Singapore and have been met with wonderful support ahead of their new careers.

“The breeding season is a wonderfully exciting time. It is a period of possibilities especially with young stallions and mares who are bidding to build a new reputation after success on the racetrack to being successful in the breeding industry,” said Michael Wallace, the China Horse Club’s Bloodstock and Racing Manager.

“In 2016 the China Horse Club will have 60 mares covered by our elite stallion band and a select number of outside stallions. It is a priority to support these stallions strongly again this spring. It is an exciting time especially when seven of the stallions are either in their first or second season at stud.

“The first foals of Dissident, Wandjina and Deep Field are now hitting the ground and it has been a very encouraging start. We believe the Pride of Dubais, Vancouvers, Press Statements and Super Ones will be just as outstanding. They will have every chance to make their mark.”

The response to first season stallions Pride of Dubai, Vancouver, Press Statement and Super One has been exceedingly encouraging. Hear from the studs themselves on the response from the industry to date:

Pride of Dubai and Vancouver (Jim Carey, Stud Manager at Coolmore Australia):

“It is hard to imagine young stallions with better credentials than Pride Of Dubai and Vancouver. Both were outstanding racehorses, both have blue-blooded pedigrees and both are exemplary physical specimens.

“The response from breeders has been, as expected, overwhelmingly positive. Of course this bodes well for the season ahead for each of them, with both set to cover big books of mares of the highest quality.

“They are both fit and ready to go, so needless to say, we’re looking forward to a lucky season with them. We’re are very hopeful that they can become top sires of the future for Coolmore and China Horse Club.”

Press Statement (Adam White, Nomination and Sales Manager, Vinery Stud):

“We have been thrilled with how Press Statement has let down into a stallion since arriving earlier this year to Vinery. He has strengthened quite considerably and is now a striking looking individual.

“We have recently had our stallion parades and Press Statement was very well received and quite popular amongst visitors. He has a really nice book of quality mares coming his way and we are looking forward to him commencing his first breeding season.”

Super One (Bruce Slade, Director of Stallions and Sales, Newgate Farm):

“Super One has been extremely well received in his first season at stud. He has the most relaxed nature and has settled into stud life easily. He was born for it!

“His natural speed and precocity, along with his dashing looks, have made him a very attractive and genuinely commercial option at his $10,000 + GST stud fee. Australian breeders are right behind him and we believe he will be amongst the best supported first crop stallions with over 160 mares booked to him to date.

“He starts his official stallion duties tonight, just after midnight, and we could not be more excited about his future prospects.”
