Exceed And Excel x Dame Giselle filly was the first born at The Chase and its first million dollar result
There was an air of inevitable when an Exceed And Excel filly out of former exceptional racehorse Dame Giselle entered the Inglis auction ring on the second day of trading under the banner of The Chase.
Throughout her career the filly has been a marker of achievement for the Southern Highlands operation. She was the first foal born in its fields under the current ownership, with her dam having been among the first elite mares relocated to the boutique farm.
She was the first earmarked as ‘Easter quality’ from her crop, having stamped herself as exceptional from the day she was born. And on Monday she became the first China Horse Club homebred for The Chase to delivered a million-dollar result when being knocked down to Kia Ora Stud / Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott for an even million at the 2024 Easter Yearling Sale.
Achievements of The Chase:
-
No.2 Vendor by Average (AUD543,750) at only its second Easter Yearling Sale
-
Sold highest priced Exceed And Excel yearling (Exceed And Excel x Dame Giselle filly)
-
Sold second highest priced Extreme Choice filly (Extreme Choice x Just Zerene filly)
-
90% clearance rate across major Australian yearling sales in 2024 (29 of 32 yearlings sold)
-
48% of those realized AUD300,000 or more
The Dame Giselle filly elevated The Chase to the ranking of No.2 vendor by average at Australia’s most prestigious yearling sale. An imperious result at only its second Easter Yearling Sale. And she ensured the China Horse Club’s Australian breeding arm realize a million dollars result for the fifth successive season.
The filly in question is the third generation of a family China Horse Club has fostered and was bred in partnership by Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock. The two powerhouse operations raced Dame Giselle to no less than four group successes and more than AUD1.3 million in prize money after Go Bloodstock purchased the Dame Giselle as a yearling from China Horse Club at the 2019 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The Dame Giselle filly elevated The Chase to the ranking of No.2 vendor by average at Australia’s most prestigious yearling sale.
The shared auction result is the continuation of a richly rewarding friendship that has included a slew of G1 successes as well as Sir Owen’s personal involvement with the China Horse Club as one of its inaugural International Advisory Council members and Go Bloodstock as a sponsor of feature races in China at China Equine Cultural Festival (CECF) events.
“The results over the last two days of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale are a culmination on an exceptional year and I’m delighted and honoured that a high watermark was realized with our great friend and partner, Sir Owen Glenn,” said Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of China Horse Club.

“Sir Owen put his faith in our team when The Chase was being repositioned as a breeding operation. Dame Giselle was the first high profile mare here and this filly was the first foal born at the farm.
“We are very fortunate to have sold high priced yearlings at most of the major markets around the world and to have bred G1 winners in those centres as well. The importance of this result to The Chase, which is still in its infancy, is as satisfying as any of those previous achievements.”
The Exceed And Excel x Dame Giselle filly is the 14th individual seven figure yearling auction result worldwide for China Horse Club outright or in partnership.
Seven Figure Yearling Auction Results
Over the course of the 2024 Australian yearling sales season, The Chase has had a year to remember. It has realized a staggering 90 percent clearance rate at major sales nearly half of those results trading for AUD300,000 or more.
The growing appreciation for The Chase and China Horse Club bred stock has been driven by the racetrack performances of the club’s graduates including 2023/2024 headline acts Ozzmosis (1st 2023 G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes), Communist (1st 2023 G1 Randwick Guineas) and Revolutionary Miss (five-time group winner of AUD1.5 million).
