Alcott – ‘the sensitive tough guy’

Alcott

Alcott is a powerful horse that just loves to run. He can be challenging to train because he wants to give 110% all the time because he loves what he does. That’s what I love about him, his passion for racing.  Behind this ‘tough guy’ image is a super sensitive nature. When I say this he can be very affectionate and adorable some days and on other days he just wants to left alone. Alcott loves a roll in the sand and you can guarantee he will drop to roll at any time while walking. He also has this unique habit with his hind legs where he crosses them and rubs them together, it quite fascinating to watch because his facial expression is one of total relaxation.”

Beat of the Drum – ‘this lady comes first’

BOTDBeat of the Drum

“Beat of the Drum is some character. She is a very athletic mare with enormous talent but her enthusiasm to train is usually questioned every morning unless she has a mate to train with, then she becomes super competitive. So competitive she may try to her workmate at any chance she gets. That’s her way of showing that she is ‘Number One’. I love her attitude. She has a never say die attitude in her races and gives her all every time she has raced in China. She prefers to be left alone and will show some attitude if another horse wants to make friends. She is a mare that gets jealous if she is not the first horse I give a morning pat and cuddle to when I walk into the barn. If I don’t give her the right attention I can certainly guarantee there will be no affection from her until she is ready! So the aim is to keep the lady happy.”

‘The Ferryman – classy, sophisticated and a professional in every sense’

FerrymanThe Ferryman

“The Ferryman is the classy gentleman, a stylish looking stallion with a ‘cool dude’ attitude. He loves his racing so much he gets a little over anxious at times but purely because he enjoys it. I love how he is able to compose himself in these moments with such professionalism. He enjoys the company of other horses when training. Off the track he has this relaxed nature and really enjoys the affection. He IS the ladies’ man around the stable.’ “

“They are all unique individuals and that is what I love about working with them (horses in general) the challenge to understand them, their habits their likes their dislikes what motivates them etc. Fascinating creatures bred for a purpose, understanding them giving them the guidance and confidence to fulfill their purpose is what I love and I try to provide them. To me they’re like humans without a voice.”
