Hightail

The lucrative Queensland racing carnivals again beckons Hightail after his dominant win over older rivals in Sydney last weekend. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained three-year-old earned a tilt at the G3 Gold Coast Guineas in a fortnight’s time after scoring in the AUD100,000 Quinze Seltzer Handicap (1250m) in his first start since a fast-finishing fourth in the AUD2,000,000 Magic Millions 3YO Classic last January.

The Gold Coast’s tight track has been a rewarding destination for Hightail’s connections and they have every reason to believe that the athletic gelding can deliver a big win at the circuit if given the right circumstances. In addition to his slashing run in January’s 3YO Classic, the bay was even more impressive 12 months earlier on the very same day when coming from 12th of 16 in the AUD2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic to be beaten less than a length.

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman piloted Hightail to success in the Listed Gosford Guineas in late December and again rode his charge with supreme confidence once again. Settling back from his outside barrier, Bowman worked into the race with a looping run before bidding his time within striking distance of the leaders and letting Hightail have his head inside the final 200m. Under strong riding the three-year-old outpunched his rivals to post his fourth career wins and lift his prize money earnings to AUD722,000.
