The world’s richest two year old race is in the sights of Irish Bet after the China Horse Club owned colt was a dominant debut winner on Saturday in the $A500,000 (RMB2.5 million) Inglis Nursery in Sydney, Australia.
The striking colt paid for his $A55,000 purchase price five times over at his first outing and joins a crack team of lightly raced performers set to target the $A3,500,000 (RMB17.7 million) Golden Slipper in March next year. The club’s firepower already includes the above average colts Bondi, Neutrality, Legislation as well as the talented fillies Galina and Eawase. The ascent of Irish Bet provides additional muscle ahead of a period of elite and lucrative racing that will see almost $A10 in prize money up for grabs for two-year-olds across a handful of feature races.
“Irish Bet could not have been more impressive on his debut. It was rewarding to see the promise hinted at delivered upon under race conditions,” said Michael Wallace, Director of Bloodstock and Racing for the China Horse Club.
“It is still very early in the season but we have some very nice colts and fillies at present in our two-year-old ranks. Hopefully they can all keep developing in the manner we hope they will. If they can do so then races like the Golden Slipper, $A1,500,000 (RMB7.6 million) Blue Diamond Stakes, $A1,000,000 (RMB5 million) ATC Sires Produce Stakes, $A500,000 (RMB2.5 million) Champagne Stakes and $A2,000,000 (RMB10 million) Magic Millions are all within our sights.”
