Twirling Candy x Sage Mist colt
Leading players from Qatar, the United States and China united to buy a prized colt at the first day of the OBS March Sale of Select Two-Year-Old’s in Training in Florida overnight. The trio of Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Al Shaqab Racing, Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm and the China Horse Club will race the Twirling Candy x Sage Mist colt in the United States where he will be given his chance to measure up in some of the nation’s blue riband events.
The strapping colt was sought after by leading stables from across North America before the powerhouse conglomerate delivered its winning bid. He will be trained by champion trainer Todd Pletcher who also oversaw the career of Daredevil for the China Horse Club.
“It is a rare opportunity to share in a racehorse with owners who have been as successful as Al Shaqab Racing and WinStar Farm and to do so with a colt that we all loved was too good to pass up,” said Michael Wallace, the China Horse Club’s Head of Racing and Bloodstock, from Florida.
“He is a big strong colt who moved well and fills the eye. He was at the top of our list and is a great addition to our operation in the U.S.”
Bodemeister x Indy’s Windy colt
The bay was one of four two-year-olds purchased overnight by the China Horse Club who also secured a Bodemeister x Indy’s Windy colt and an Into Mischief x Ribbon Taffy colt in partnership with WinStar Farm as well as a grey Hansen x Palomanegra colt.
“This is the China Horse Club’s first foray into the horses in training sales in the United States but we have been monitoring these sales for some time and seen the success others have had and that some of our partners like WinStar Farm and SF Bloodstock have enjoyed,” Wallace added.
“With our purchases here on the opening day we believe we are able to give our members a chance to continue enjoying their racing in the United States and the success they are collectively having around the world.”
The Twirling Candy colt and Bodemeister colt both covered the 200m breeze in 10.1 second while both the Hansen colt and the Into Mischief colt posted an explosive 9.4 second split, the equal second faster time recorded during the under tack show.
