20200806-Just the Judge

Expectation has always followed former champion race mare Just The Judge. A G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner who parlayed that form into overseas success when snaring the G1 E.P. Taylor Stakes in North America, before setting a new benchmark in the sales ring and having her first two foals change hands in million-euro transactions.

It is a storied career that is now seeing a new chapter being written by the emergence of her promising daughter Nash Nasha. The two-year-old filly was only making her second race appearance at Lingfield (UK) overnight but despite her inexperience she confirmed that she has undoubtedly inherited some of the quality of her mother with a slashing display.

Nash Nasha was always prominent in the mile (1600m) contest before taking control of the affair early into the straight under jockey William Buick and racing away for a commanding win by nearly three lengths.

The result was a rewarding one for global powerhouse Godolphin who were adamant they would not be leaving Arqana’s 2018 Breeding Stock Sale without her. When partners China Horse Club and Qatar Bloodstock listed her for sale there was naturally considerable interest. The filly is the product of a dalliance between Just The Judge and champion British sire Dubawi. Despite her youth, bidding was frenetic with the Arqana auction ring set alight before Godolphin won the day when a final bid of €1,000,000 – a sales-record-breaking bid for a foal at Arqana.

Buick was positive post-race in his assessment of Nash Nasha and certainly sees her as a filly with more wins in store.

“The track was never going to suit her, she is quite a tall filly, but I like what she did,” Buick told Sky Sports Racing.

“It was a bit new to her today but she’s dealt with it now and she will be a nice filly for the future.”

Just The Judge was put down at Tweenhills Stud last year following complications following a colic surgery.
