New Bay headonNew Bay

With almost four months of the season still to run boom sire New Bay has already eclipsed the prize money totals achieved by Night of Thunder (2021) and Kingman (2020) who were crowned Champion Third Season Sires for Great Britain/Ireland over the last two seasons.

The Ballylinch based stallion has achieved the feat from only 78 runners to date and is currently dueling with the high class Mehmas (142 runners to date) to add his moniker to an honour roll that also includes recent champions Frankel and Camelot.

Mehmas reclaimed a slender lead in the title after his quality son Minzaal saluted in the £350,000 Sprint Cup at Haydock last week but New Bay returned serve a few days later when his daughter Munch secured a striking win in the £100,000 2YO Fillies Series Final (7f) at Goodwood. The China Horse Club bred filly was dominant in posting her second win from only four race appearances. Now less than £60,000 separates the two standout young sires.

“New Bay is really riding a wave right now, there are significant results being recorded almost every week,” said Matt Holdsworth,’ China Horse Club’s European Representative.

“Munch’s valuable juvenile win follows big stakes results with Saffron Beach (G1 & G2), Jumbly (G2), Bay Bridge (G3), Claymore) and Cresta (Listed) which have rolled out with real consistency since May and this has truly established him within the eyes of the market.

“China Horse Club has some exciting yearlings to take to Tattersalls and Goffs over the coming weeks and one of the undoubted highlights is the New Bay x Falling Petals colt who is of course a full-brother to aforementioned Saffron Beach.”

The colt in question is listed as Lot 453 of Goffs Orby Sale (https://www.goffs.com/sales-results/sales/orby-sale-2022/453) and has carried the kind of profile one might expect from a full-relation to one of Europe’s premier performers this season. The New Bay x Falling Petals colt was raised and is prepared by Ballylinch Stud.

Since the start of May, New Bay’s progeny have won no less than five group races and a listed event among 50 wins (57% winners/runners strike rate). The talismanic Saffron Beach was authoritative during this time with successive wins in the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and G1 Prix Rothschild and is expected to be given the chance to build on that already imperious record in Saturday’s G1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown (Ireland).

New Bay’s tally may be further bolstered before season’s end with a slew of big race entries headed by Bay Bridge’s expected attendance in the season culminating £1,260,000 G1 Qipco Champions Stakes.
