Zhejiang Sports Bureau recognizes that Nine Dragons Hill Polo Club is a suitable venue to host thoroughbred racing events and that it has the experience to host major national events. This event is also being supported by thoroughbred racing’s ruling body, the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA).
In 2014 this event will be a platform for the identification of talented young jockeys from across China. These young riders will compete alongside invited international jockeys in the spirit of competition. The promotion of young talents is a core goal of the China Horse Club, an elite lifestyle, business and thoroughbred racing club that provides unique experiences to its members in China and around the world.
Since its inception in 2012 The China Horse Club has endeavoured to be a contributor to the growth of the thoroughbred industry in China. The CHC’s international racehorse ownership program has provided a roadmap for the future success of Chinese involvement in thoroughbred racing. The club’s Chairman, Mr Teo Ah Khing, and Coolmore are among the co-owners of the world’s number one 3-year old racehorse Australia. The CHC and Coolmore are co-owners of the dam of The Wow Signal, Europe’s leading two-year-old racehorse.
The CHC’s international racing program has generated success at some of the world’s racing capitals including Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, France, Italy, Singapore and the USA. Every success is aimed at inspiring Chinese to achieve distinction and success in what is traditionally a sport dominated by the West.

An invitation only formal gala dinner – 2014 CECF The Yangtze Delta Region Gala Dinner – will be held on 11 October 2014 at the Jing An Shangri-La Hotel kick-offing the 3-day event and provide an elegant platform to set the tone of this year’s CECF. The evening event will celebrate the future of horseracing in China. Arguably the feature event of the evening will be the unveiling and auctioning of four unique horse blankets. Each blanket will feature art works by one of China’s contemporary artists including Yue Min Jun and Li Xiao Ling. The fusion of horse culture and art reinforces a close bond shared throughout China’s history that dates back to the Shang Dynasty (ca. 1600-1100BC). Each blanket will be auctioned at the gala dinner and be worn by the wining racehorse of each of the four feature events of the CECF Race Day the following day.
This year’s Zhejiang Nine Dragons Hill National Jockey Invitation Race – 2014 CECF is organized with the support of industry peers. These organizations include France Galop, Singapore Turf Club (STC), Irish Turf Club, Mauritius Turf Club and Racing NSW (Australia).
The four thoroughbred races will see participation from the CHC’s internationally-bred, raised and performed thoroughbreds over the following distances: 1,000m, 1,600m, 1,800m, and 2,400m.
These events will see spirited competition between selected international jockeys and local jockeys. This competition is part of the CHC efforts to develop and train Chinese jockeys and inspire the next generation of young Chinese. This commitment has also seen the CHC commit to organizing funding and strategic partnerships for the training of jockeys overseas. It is a goal of the CHC to one day have Chinese jockeys riding on its horses in some of the world’s most prestigious races.
The final day of the CHC’s feature festival will see invited guests take a cultural visit to the city of Kunshan. In 2010 Kunshan ranked first in a study by Forbes in the “25 Best County-level Cities in China”. It has also been recognized with the following awards, Excellent Tourism City of China, The National Garden City, the National Model City of Environment Protection and the National Model Zone of Ecology .
The Founding of the CHC
When the CHC was established as an elite club for horse owners in 2012, its founder and chairman – Mr Teo Ah Khing – envisioned its members to be society’s select models of success, excellence, entrepreneurial motivation, and responsible stewardship. Mr Teo discovered thoroughbred ownership as a passionate hobby that required a perceptive mind, a competitive spirit, and a compassionate heart. With these attributes, Mr Teo has continued to promote horse ownership and horseracing as the definer of stature, character, and success.
Mr Teo Ah Khing
Under the guidance of Mr Teo, the CHC’s achievements have become meteoric and outstanding globally within a short period of time. The CHC’s stable of racehorses, together with Mr Teo’s partners, have won prestigious races such as the Investec Epsom Derby, the Irish Derby, Juddmonte International, the Longines Singapore Gold Cup and Australian ATC Sires Produce Stakes. Globally, the CHC’s distinct red silks with yellow stars have become familiar winners in the racing capitals of Ireland, England, France, Italy, Australia, the United States, and Singapore. CHC’s successes have accorded Mr Teo access to some of the world’s most impressive personalities in horseracing such as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England, Sheikh Mohammed, Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Abdullah and Sheikh Joaan Al Thani of Qatar, John Magnier of Coolmore, John Warren racing advisor to the Queen of England, Aidan O’Brien of Ballydoyle, Sir Owen Glenn of Glenn Family Foundation and Dato Tan Chin Nam of Think Big Stud.
Mr Teo’s horseracing victories have also won support and admiration from a spectrum of society’s elite including world leaders, heads of state, industry taipans, business tycoons, financial leaders, bankers, fashion designers, fashion icons, and artists.
The Zhejiang Nine Dragons Hill National Jockey Invitation Race – 2014 CECF aspires to promote elite domestic thoroughbred racing, promote the talents of young Chinese jockeys and bring China international recognition. The achievement of these goals is only possible with the good will and spirit of collaboration of the Zhejiang Sports Bureau and the CHC’s valued local and international partners and sponsors.
