An emphatic win in one of Australia’s most famous races capped a stunning weekend of success for members of the China Horse Club.
Press Statement won the G1 Caulfield Guineas
Just hours after creating history when Beat of the Drum became the first mainland Chinese racehorse to win in the United States, Press Statement carried the same racing colours to success in the RMB4,500,000 (AUD1,000,000) G1 Caulfield Guineas in a different corner of the world before members enjoyed another triumph in Wuhan.
In all, China Horse Club members created history in two countries and enjoyed success at home in a wondrous weekend of racing. The highlights of the weekend included:
- CHC Members winning a fourth ‘classic’, the G1 Caulfield Guineas, after two Derby wins by Australia and First Seal’s success in the Flight Stakes;
- The first time a Chinese owned racehorse from mainland China won in the United States;
- A 10th G1 win for CHC members after Press Statement won the RMB4,500,000 G1 Caulfield Guineas;
- Bullion winning at Wuhan
“It is fantastic to see our members winning in three different countries over the one weekend and to not only win but to create history as well. That is very rewarding as the benefits are not just for members for the industry in China,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).
“We cannot ever forget the importance of raising the profile of Chinese owners and Chinese racing internationally. As a club in China we have an obligation to help grow the industry here and this weekend has helped a great deal and also comes just days after one of our other horses, Dissident, was officially crowned the Australian Racehorse of the Year.
“In the last few months Chinese owners have won the New Zealand Horse of the Year Award, NSW Horse of the Year Award, Victorian Horse of the Year Award and now Australian Horse of the Year Award. The world is taking notice and all Chinese involved in racing should be excited by this and feel very proud.”
The status of the Caulfield Guineas ensured that Press Statement’s win in the feature was reported around the racing world in quick time. The Chris Waller trained colt confirmed his status as one of Australia’s highest profile racehorses and lifted his record to five wins in only seven career starts. His immediate future looks exceedingly exciting.
Press Statement
Press Statement wasn’t the only winner on Saturday afternoon with Bullion producing a storming finish to take out the 1200m open sprint at Wuhan, the venue of last month’s CECF Wuhan. The former Sydney based gelding has been patiently handled and showed renewed vitality when delivering a paralyzing burst to win his first race in China. Members also enjoyed a series of placegetters in both China and Singapore to support a weekend of wins.
