20210128-Providence as a yearlingProvidenceprovides as a yearling

Almost two years to the date that she was first spied by China Horse Club’s racing team, Providenceprovides franked the excitement she generated at that first viewing when striding clear for a dominant win in the NZ10,000 LF Selter Maiden (1400m) at Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand.

Providenceprovides was one of six yearlings the China Horse Club purchased outright or in partnership at the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale. The tally athletic filly was secured for only AUD50,000 and looks capable of making light of that sum. The Classic Sale has been a happy hunting ground for the Club with its list of graduates headed by group winner and stallion Cosmic Force. Providenceprovides may be given her chance to mirror Cosmic Force’s group success in her maiden preparation.

“[Providenceprovides] is still learning but the raw ability is there and she’s improving all the time,” said Michael Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian representative.

“She wasn’t in a hurry to stop at the line either and will be better over further. We will see how she comes through this contest before we finalize her programme but a contest like the G2 Lowland takes in early March may be a suitable target for her.”

The strapping filly made the requisite improvement from her debut in early January 2021 to post a length-and-a-quarter win today giving every indication that she will enjoy being tested over more ground. Having settled outside the leader, Providenceprovides stretched out strongly for jockey Michael McNab, pulling clear in the straight and comfortable holding her rivals over the concluding stages.

“Providenceprovides jumped well and took the bull by the horns going to the lead,” Smith continued.

“Michael [McNab] just steadied her and let a horse slide up the inside for her to take a sit off of. She was able to get a nice breather coming through the bend when they slowed the pace before being asked the question in the straight.

“When she hit the lead, she had a little look around but Michael knuckled down on her and drover her out. There are a lot of positives to take out of the day.”
