China Horse Club members enjoyed success in China and Britain over the weekend with the club’s racing and breeding programs standing up in some of the biggest meetings in the respective countries. Johannes Vermeer, co-bred and co-owned by the China Horse Club, built further on his juvenile record in Britain at what is the final major race day in the country, before the former Irish based Magic Spell held off stablemate North Dakota to provide an important 1-2 for members at the final of Wuhan’s Autumn Season Racing Carnival.
Magic Spell
“It was another fantastic weekend of results. We are becoming more consistent with our results internationally and locally and that is important for our members,” said Michael Wallace, Head of International Breeding and Racing for the China Horse Club.
“Quinton [Cassidy] and the team have done a wonderful job with the team in China and it will be exciting to see how horses like Magic Spell continue to progress this year and into next year. The same applies for horses like Johannes Vermeer who has come a long way in a short time.”
Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer franked the weighty opinion of him when running second in the RMB2,000,000 (£200,000) G1 Racing Post Trophy (1600m), an event with a rich history of producing stars the following season. The runner-up effort build on an encouraging juvenile record which already includes a G3 win in Ireland and augurs well for the colt’s ‘classic season’ in 2016 when he is likely to be directed to some of Europe’s most important races for three-year-olds.
Johannes Vermeer was co-bred by the China Horse Club and is the latest example of the club’s breeding program which is gaining greater and greater significance. The son of champion sire Galileo is among the budding stars for members when the new racing season begins in 2016. Johannes Vermeer’s dam, Inca Princess, is back in foal to Galileo and is therefore carrying a full-brother or full-sister to the highly talented juvenile.
North Dakota
In China the duo Magic Spell and North Dakota were no less important for members when running 1-2 in the 2850m CEA final at Wuhan yesterday. That Magic Spell was able to outperform his more accomplished rival who has won at the Minority Games, Chengdu and Xilinhaote over the last year is testament to how much he has progressed in 2015. The lightly raced son of Galileo has benefited from being patiently handled with yesterday’s win his second this season. On the same program stablemates Outpost and Flaming Aura ran second in their respective races.
