Resolution (no 14) race across the finishing line
Resolution produced the most dominant performance of his career to race away with the SGD50,000 Better Than Ever Stakes Class4 (1200m) at Kranji (Singapore) on Sunday. In the process, casting aside the disappointment of his first up fourth in mid-July.
The enigmatic but talented performer looked an entirely different conveyance on this occasion, despite being caught wide in running throughout the race. Under the handling of jockey JP Van Der Merwe, Resolution pulled his way into the race coming into the home corner and, irrespective of being four wide was the first into the straight. Upon balancing up, the lightly raced four-year-old sprinted with authority to win by a widening three lengths.
The dominance of the gelding’s performance was emphasized with the sectional timing. Resolution ran the fastest splits between the 800m – 400m and from the 400m to the finishing line and was the only contender to break the 70 second barrier for the race. In doing so, he franked the pre-race positivity of trainer Michael Clements who had expected a positive showing not only on this occasion but on the gelding’s resumption.
The win improved Resolution’s record to two wins and three placings from 11 starts with prize money of almost SGD77,000.
