Rose Bloom has China Horse Club salivating about her classic prospects in 2024 after confirming her status as the best juvenile filly in France when second in Sunday’s €400,000 G1 Prix Marcel Boussac (1600m) at Longchamp on Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe day.

The Nicolas Clement trained filly was fronting the starter for only the third occasion and putting her undefeated record on the line. And while she may have conceded on that record, she enhanced her reputation on France’s championship race day against the best fillies Europe can assemble.

“We are very proud of the filly, she has done nothing wrong, she has showed she can rival the best,” Clement said of Rose Bloom post-race.

“She is the leading French filly. She will be very exciting to see next year.”

Next month’s USD1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (1600m) looms for consideration but the expectation is that Rose Bloom will be tipped out for the season with an eye on next May’s €500,000 G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (1600m) back at Longchamp as an obvious target.

The Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, France’s 1000 Guineas equivalent, is a time honoured contest and would be new ground for China Horse Club who is yet to win one of the country’s famed classics. In its decade of racing, the Club has annexed France’s G1 Criterium International Stakes and G1 Prix Ganay and classics in Australia, Britain, Ireland, New Zealand and the United States and quite rightly wishes to address add France to that list.

“I will talk with the owners but I think we will put her away for the year,” Clement said.

“There are some very nice races next year and I hope we can be right there.”

The G1 Prix Marcel Boussac was won by the immensely impressive Opera Singer, a star daughter of former China Horse Club colour bearer Justify.
