Rose Bloom marked her card as an exciting talent with a heart stopping debut win in Deauville (France) yesterday.
Almost a year to the day that she was purchased by China Horse Club, the beautifully made individual became the third lightly raced filly to win for the international operation in the space of 24 hours following the successes of August Bloom and Hampton Queen in Australia.
Her success in the €200,000 Arqana Series des Pouliches (1400m) made a considerable down payment on her €320,000 price and franked estimates of held by her trainer Nicolas Clement.
“Rose Bloom couldn’t have been any more impressive there,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.
“She has shown promise at home with Nicolas and we have been encouraged by her progress but the demonstration of her closing speed and the authority of the win was something else. Hopefully she can continue progressing off that now.”
Jockey Stephane Pasquier settled the debutant behind the leading division, allowing her to find her feet in the contest. But at the 200m mark, as rivals were making their runs, he was confronted with a wall of horses and was forced to bid his time on Rose Bloom.
While that wall eventually separated, it was only inside the final 100m mark that Rose Bloom was able to hit top gear and her acceleration was eye-catching. Under hands and heels urging she not only reeled in Atlantic Ways but put a length on her going away.
Rose Bloom is the first of three well-bred graduates from the Arqana August Yearling Sale to race. The naturally athletic filly caught the eye of Houldsworth and China Horse Club Australia’s Mike Smith and was immediately earmarked as a racing prospect who could play an ongoing role in the Club’s European breeding arm in time.
