The China Horse Club has received an early Chinese New Year gift with the arrival of six new racehorses who will compete in the Year of the Monkey. Six in all, the new additions to the CHC’s China based team are exclusively made up of performers who have either won or placed in races from limited opportunities. In the coming months a selection of additional young unraced horses will also join the CHC China stable from New Zealand.

“I am particularly excited by the new editions coming into the stable. We have learned a great deal in recent years about the kind of horses that suit China and the profile of these new horses is just what we need to ensure continued success on the racetracks of China,” said Quinton Cassidy, the China Horse Club’s Head Trainer in China.

“Our members have consistently won races with lightly raced performers from Australia and all of our new additional are lightly raced. Three are already winners. The other three have all placed in races from limited starts. I can see them making an impact in 2016 and being better again in 2017. It is exciting.”

The new editions were singled out after meeting a specific performance criteria and are expected to not only contest feature race contests across China, but also the 2016 CECF which will again be arguably the feature racing carnival held in China this year.

Comments on the six new editions from trainer Cassidy are outlined below in alphabetical order:

General Zabeel:

“Already the winner of two races in Australia over 2000m and 2100m, he arrives with a superior profile to the club’s 2014 champion stayer Alcott and 2015 champion stayer Endzone. Like Alcott, he is by the champion sire Zabeel and is expected to only improve with age. I can see him being a force for the club over the next few seasons.”

Imperial Guard:

“A handsome individual, Imperial Guard placed in three of his six career starts in Australia and is still maturing to my eye. He has a strong frame and a kind nature and that should help him adapt to China. I look forward to seeing him in action in 2016.”

Ocean Frontier:

“Ocean Frontier has performed very well in barrier trials in Australia even though he is bred to get over more ground. He has a strong frame and I will be looking to see if we can use his speed here in China. He could develop into a sprinter or sprint/miler just like Commengy who was so explosive when winning at the CECF Wuhan last year.”

Royal Oasis:

“This is the only mare in the group and she is already the winner of two races from seven starts with success over 1300m and 1600m. What excites me is that she has a great temperament and knows how to win! She is a lovely type and, in time, can be a broodmare for her owners producing future racehorses. She looks quality.”

Torch:

“Torch is a lightly raced gelding who has placed twice in only five starts. He was trained in Brisbane by Robert Heathcote who is a very good conditioner of horses and trains the great Buffering who has won more than RMB30 million in prize money. He looks like a sprinter to me but time will tell. He has a lovely nature about him.”

Wilderness:

Wilderness

“I can see why some of the best judges of thoroughbreds in the world wanted to buy Wilderness as a yearling. He is a gorgeous racehorse, very powerful and masculine. He has a real presence about him. He is already a winner and I know his trainer thought he could win several more races before he was secured to come to China. His half-brother Starspangledbanner was a champion sprinter in Australia and Europe and I can see him excelling in sprint races here in China.”
