20230314-Ade Sale

A year after leading all vendors by average, The Chase, powered by China Horse Club, has closed the 2023 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale with a series of notable results including the achievement of being the second leading vendor by average.

For an operation only 12 months into consigning, it is another heady result and further builds upon a reputation for presenting quality stock to market.

“It is a credit to the team at The Chase preparing the yearlings and to the China Horse Club’s breeding programme that results like this are being realized,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian Representative.

“We head to Sydney next for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale with three exceptional Zoustar yearlings and do so at a time when graduates like Communist (G1), Revolutionary Miss (G2), Cannonball (G3) and co are winning features on big race days.”

Over the two days of the Adelaide Magic Millions, the consignment from The Chase enjoyed a flurry of highlights:

  • 2nd leading vendor by average (AUD93,286)
  • 9th leading vendor by gross from only 7 offered
  • Equal top priced filly of the sale (AUD170,000 Strasbourg x Just Zerene filly)
  • Sold 6 of 7 yearlings

The response of the buying bench to the six yearlings sold by The Chase was unequivocal, with their average sitting almost 90 percent about the sale average.

“The market has become more selective as the year has gone on so it is important to place stock appropriately. We believe we have done that,” Smith added.

“As we look at 2024 and beyond, The Chase does intend to have a greater and great presence at premium auctions in Australia. This coincides with what we believe are the best foal crops we have ever raised.

“China Horse Club has a portfolio of stallion interests the equal of any operation in the country and the fruits of our breeding programme are being seen at all the big carnivals. The ‘CHC brand’ has resonance and it is only growing.”

This weekend the China Horse Club / Newgate Farm / Trilogy Bloodstock syndicate heads to the stallion making AUD5,000,000 G1 Golden Slipper with a trio of quality colts among the 16 strong field as well as the only emergency. Success for King’s Gambit, Don Corleone or Empire of Japan would immediately position them as one of the most valuable stallion prospects in the country and central to future breeding plans.
