Under bright blue Australian skies upgrades to one of the China Horse Club’s showpiece estates remain ongoing ahead of thoroughbreds being based their permanently in 2016.
Since acquiring The Chase in 2014, the China Horse Club has made significant improvements to the property which is a feature among its international lifestyle facilities. Located just 90 minutes south of Sydney and two hours north of the Australian capital of Canberra, the Chase is one of the jewels in an area known as the NSW Southern Highlands.
The Chase is renowned for its tree lined roads and manicured gardens
“New trees have been planted, dead trees have been removed, work is also underway to improve fencing, internal roads and also stabling for China Horse Club thoroughbreds,” said Michael Wallace, Head of the China Horse Club’s Bloodstock and Racing, who is overseeing many of the upgrades.
“As we head into the summer months and into the new year the improvements will be ongoing. The new fencing lines have been marked up which will define the paddock spaces for our horses and work on the internal roads is currently underway. Work on a new stable for members’ horses will also begin shortly.
“The Chase was always a picturesque estate, with the improvements that are in process it will blossom even further. It is very exciting to see it coming together.”
Aerial photos of The Chase taken in November highlight some of the improvements to a property which has long been known for its sculpted tree lined roads and manicured gardens. The construction of a stabling area to house some of the club’s elite performers will be among the major works with a dedicated tree planting program commencing once the heat of the summer has passed.
“The Chase is a beautiful location to visit and spend time in. For our members that have yet to visit I can only encourage them to do so if they are in Australia. There are few places as relaxing,” added Wallace.
“I know our thoroughbreds that spend time down here will enjoy it as well. It will be a wonderful retreat for them. The aerial photos show the size of some of our paddocks and, being an area of high rain fall, the paddocks will be green for most of the year so our horses will benefit mentally and physically.”
The upgrades to The Chase ensure it will remain a jewel in the NSW Southern Highlands
The upgrading of The Chase is being done in parallel with final improvements to the Alpina Mountain Resort and Spa which will officially reopen later this month. Both the Swiss resort and the Australian estate are historic properties with the former being built in 1897 and the later in the 1880s.
