China Horse Club’s The Chase has made a splash at its inaugural Inglis Premier Yearling Sale recording the highest median average and second highest average at the Melbourne complex over the last decade.

The South Highland’s based operation offered five lots over the two-day Premier Session of the auction, selling four including three lots over AUD300,000. At the close of trading, The Chase’s statistics included a record a median of AUD360,000 and average of AUD327,500 for vendors who sold three lots of more.

“It is an immense achievement for both The Chase and China Horse Club’s Australian division and continues the momentum they are building towards the 2024 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale,” said Eden Harrington, China Horse Club’s Vice President.

“Results like this are not possible with a dedicated team, quality mares and stallions and the support and energy of a dedicated buying bench and the Inglis team.

“We wish the four successful buying groups every success and also thank all parties who were bidding in support of our draft.”

A Zoustar colt out of a half-sister to Magic Millions winning filly Away Game set the tone for The Chase on the opening day when being secured for AUD500,000 by TFI/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

That heady result was parlayed on day two with Blue Diamond Stakes winning trainer and part-owner Clinton Macdonald and Shane McGrath going to AUD340,000 to secure an Extreme Choice half-brother to three stakes performers. Later in the afternoon Mick Price lasted longest to land a Zoustar colt out of an unraced daughter of Camerena (G1) and half-sister to Guelph (G1), Ghibellines (G2) and the dam of Bivouac (2020 World’s Best Sprinter) for AUD380,000.
