The rise and rise of young stallion Russian Revolution has continued at the 2022 Gold Coast Yearling Sale with the progeny of the China Horse Club’s former talisman among the most in demand of Australia’s young stallion brigade.

Russian Revolution had:

  • three yearlings sell for AUD500,000 or above. The most by any sire with first crop runners on the track.
  • Highest average of all sires with first crop runners with AUD238,103
  • 94% sales clearance (25 of 27 yearlings offered were sold)

That demand has been driven by a promising start to his career and was further franked by Russian Conquest’s game second in the AUD2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The market demand spoke at the first offering of Russian Revolution’s progeny at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with a colt out of the mare Fast Return (Lot 41) realizing AUD525,000. The following day that sum was trumped by the Freedman Brothers who secured a Russian Revolution x Munjai colt for AUD560,000 and then again when Annabel Neasham and Brian McGuire paid AUD600,000 for a Russian Revolution half-sister to last year’s Golden Slipper hero Stay Inside.

The Sydney based trainer is an unabashed fan of Russian Revolution and what he has achieved in the first few months with his maiden juveniles and was unequivocal that his fast start weighted into their decision making.

“I’m very happy. You’re always happy to come away with a sibling of the latest Golden Slipper winner,” Neasham told ANZ Bloodstock News after securing the Russian Revolution x Nothin Leica Storm filly.

“I thought she might make a bit more, especially since the market in these first two days for fillies has been extremely strong. We’ve lost out on a number of fillies that we really liked, so we’re pleased not to miss out this time.

“The stallion [Russian Revolution] combined with a good pedigree page is what drew her to us. She looked really nice and sharp, and Russian Revolution is doing wonderful things early on in his career. [Russian Revolution] has got a live chance in the Magic Millions two-year-old race on Saturday with Russian Conquest.

“Physically, the she’s a belter. She’s probably a filly version of Stay Inside, not overly big but she’s strong and a good mover. Hopefully Nothin Leica Storm will be the producer of two Slipper winners, which wouldn’t be bad for a thousand-dollar mare. And the filly is going to hold good residual value. She’ll always be the sister to a Slipper winner.”

Russian Revolution is currently the Leading First Season Sire in Australia by prize money and currently 3rd overall on the Australian Two-Year-Old Sires table behind last season’s champion sire Written Tycoon and the late star sire Sebring.

The Newgate Farm based sire is expected to continue pressing his credentials ahead of the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a series of promising young performers headed by the above-mentioned Russian Conquest. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly will now zero in on the AUD5,000,000 Golden Slipper Stakes and the lucrative leadup events and she isn’t expected to be the sole representative of the two-time G1 winner tackling these features.
