The all-powerful Godolphin and Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) won out when securing two attractive colts bred by China Horse Club on the second day of the 2022 Tattersalls Book One October Yearling Sale in Britain.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was on hand to oversee the bidding on a Blue Point x Siamsaiocht colt (Lot 212) who was knocked down for Guineas 200,000 (USD236,000). The athletic colt heralds from an active Irish family that has been crafted by noted trainer and breeder Jim Bolger.

The Blue Point x Siamsaiocht colt was a precursor to the fellow Baroda Stud prepped Australia x Ultra Appeal colt (Lot 269) whose future career will unfold in the racing mecca of Hong Kong.
The full-brother to group winner and G1 placegetter Patrick Sarsfield was well admired by a broad spectrum of industry players but it was the HKJC’s Mick Kinane who won the day with a final bid of Guineas 280,000 (USD330,000).
The result ensured the bay was the highest priced yearling by Australia over the first two days of the sale. The Australia x Ultra Appeal colt will be part of HKJC’s horses in training sale in 2023.

“These were two good quality colts who have delivered positive results and, importantly, have been secured by world class operations. We wish them every success in the future,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.
“We have a select portfolio in Book One and to have a 100 percent sales rate to date following on from a €450,000 sale for our full-brother to multiple G1 winner Saffron Beach (New Bay x Falling Petals colt) at Goffs last week is positive.”
In 2021, China Horse Club sold the highest priced yearling by Australia the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when bringing to market a half-sister to the above-mentioned Saffron Beach. The chestnut filly, who is yet to be named, was consigned by Ballylinch Stud and knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock.
