A week after a trio of juveniles saluted for the China Horse Club, the regally bred Utah has added to the tally of juvenile success with an emphatic win at the Curragh overnight. The Aidan O’Brien trained colt had little trouble dispatching his rivals in the Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital European Breeders Fund Maiden (1600m) at what was only his second career start.
The son of Galileo was bought in partnership with Coolmore at Goffs in 2015 for €260,000 and made light of that sum when racing up on the speed for jockey Seamie Heffernan before taking the lead and extending his advantage over the final two furlongs. On the line Utah had two-and-a-quarter lengths advantage over his nearest rival.
“Utah is a quality colt and is being handled patiently by Aidan [O’Brien] as one would expect from a trainer of his stature,” said Michael Wallace, Racing and Bloodstock Manager for the China Horse Club.
“As a yearling he looked like a potential classic horse and this display suggests he will appreciate getting over more ground. There is much to happen before we start talking about feature three-year-old races but this result is certainly encouraging and it is one to savour with our partners.”
A week ago the China Horse Club enjoyed juvenile success in the United States, Britain and Australia with Theory, Lockheed and First Approval respectively while Skywalk was an unlucky not to finish closer when second in the G3 Juvenile Championships in Singapore.
China Horse Club members have enjoyed a juvenile winner in the northern hemisphere for each of the last three week.
