Valiance
As Valiance streeted clear to make the USD156,000 Listed Eatontown Stakes (1700m) at Monmouth Park (USA) her own, she became the China Horse Club’s 50th winner for the season and its seventh winner in just nine days. Her triumph came just hours after Prime Star surged to a game win in the AUD125,000 Darley Virtual Parade Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens (Australia).
Valiance’s dominance was symbolic of the heady close to the month of August for the Club with a succession of winners across Australia, the UK and the United States. Impressively, Valiance is the third stakes winner in the group of seven successes, joining Cobh, who was victorious in the Listed Stonehenge Stakes in Britain, and Dame Giselle, who was determined when claiming the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes in Australia.
In all, CHC enjoyed 12 winners for the month across five different countries. The most notable being Improbable’s performance in the time honoured USD750,000 G1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga.
The grey mare Valiance improved her record to five wins from only seven career starts and prize money of USD230,000 with her Eatontown Stakes triumph. More significantly, she continues to build her value as a future broodmare as well as the credentials of her own dam, Last Full Measure, who remains a key member of CHC’s USA breeding operation.
Prime Star’s return to the winner’s circle was no less significant. In February, the then two-year-old claimed one of Australia’s richest races for juveniles when scoring in a tight win in the AUD2,000,000 Inglis Millennium only for a small setback to prevent him taking his place in key stakes races over the Sydney Autumn Carnival. He needed the run when resuming in the Listed Rosebud Stakes earlier in the month and showed his fight has not been lost when coming from off the pace with a surging run to win again over the weekend.
