Only 24 hours were needed for a reminder as to why the China Horse Club targeted the only War Front yearling from Book One of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale with the sire’s star son, War Command, saluting in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes in determined fashion over the weekend.

War Command became the six individual group one winner for War Front when racing away with England’s premier two-year-old race. In doing so he cemented his future as a multi-million dollar commercial stallion prospect and as one of the leading elects in next year’s G1 2000 Guineas. The colt joined a growing list of G1 winners for War Front that includes Coolmore’s leading older horse, Declaration of War, who is expected to feature in some of the end of season international races before retiring to stud.

In all War Front can attest to 24 individual stakes winners from only 178 starters or one stakes winner for every 7.5 runners – a world class strike-rate.

The China Horse Club had to fight off strong competition for the War Front x Dawn Chorus filly that came to the auction at a time when demand for the progeny of War Front is at an all-time high. Only a month earlier at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale a colt by the boom sire topped the fourth day of trading at the famous auction when selling for USD 2.5 million. Then a day before the War Front x Dawn Chorus filly was sold it was announced that War Front’s service fee had leapt to USD150,000 singling him out as one of the world’s premier sires.
