20220426-Front-Extreme ChoiceExtreme Warrior is a standout among Extreme Choice’s first crop of runners

The AUD500,000 G1 Goodwood Handicap beckons boom sprinter Extreme Warrior as he bids to close his racing career on a high. The Mick Priced trained colt was making his first race appearance since last spring’s G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and showed he has lost none of his acceleration when racing away from rivals in the AUD160,000 Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield (Melbourne, Australia).

China Horse Club was among a select audience of breeders to buy into Extreme Warrior late last year after he stamped himself as elite with a searing performance against some of the best of his age in the G3 Sapphire Stakes. For China Horse Club, who believed so heavily in his sire Extreme Choice as a racehorse and now as a sire, it was a logical investment opportunity to take up.

Extreme Warrior will retire to Rosemont Stud this coming breeding season. Success at highest level will stamp him as a highly commercial addition to the Victorian stud’s roster which already includes former China Horse Club colour bearer Strasbourg as well as proven sire Shamus Award.

“[Extreme Warrior] is a brilliant colt. He got very worked up behind the gates and almost half melted so we thought he might be a big fresh and a bit underdone but he was too good in the end,” Price said post-race.

“He’s a beautiful colt and everyone that comes to see him loves him. He’s got a massive hip and he’s what Extreme Choice can throw. There’s not many of these bulls around so he’s obviously been highly sought after and secured by Rosemont and their investors.

“It’s really good to get back with a win and [Extreme Warrior] has got one of those freakish actions with a really long stride and he’s a very quick horse. He’s a big bull. I just saw him in the yard there and he’s got a lot of improvement to come. The Goodwood is four weeks away so we’ll put a run in between. We’ll talk to the team and work that one out.”

Jockey Jamie Kah delivered a positive endorsement of Extreme Warrior following his third win from four starts this season.

“There’s plenty of improvement there and the team has been very kind on him,” she said.

“[Extreme Warrior] was probably a trial short so it was really nice to see him hit the line like he did. He’s a very talented colt and I think he’s got more improvement to come.

“[Extreme Warrior] pulled up like he needed the run as well so he’s going to improve off that. He’s very talented.”
